Use Cases

Sports

WeatherTrigger can be used in a sports app to determine whether playing conditions were suitable or not on a given day. For example, a golf course app would be able to run queries such as “will there be winds over 20kmh at Augusta National Golf Course?” The information fed back can then be utilized to advise golfers on which course to select, the best tee times, and if the course conditions will permit play.

Alternatively, a sports betting app or handicapping app can run complex weather queries to determine the likelihood of various weather-dependent outcomes of a sporting fixture occurring.

Mapping/ Navigation

WeatherTrigger can be used to enhance navigation apps. The API would retrieve geo-specific weather information for the route the driver was planning to take, which would then allow the navigation app to alert drivers of potentially dangerous road conditions and offer them an alternative route. For example, if WeatherTrigger is asked "Will there be rain rainfall over 18mm today?", and the answer is yes, it could offer an alternative route to avoid flooded roads. Or if the trigger is asked, "Will there be snowfall today?", and the reply is yes, an automatic message will show, warning drivers of such conditions.

Fashion

WeatherTrigger can be used to improve fashion apps. For instance, a ‘what to wear’ app could use a local weather forecast for the day ahead to produce more contextually relevant suggestions. For example, if the query ran “will it be sunny and over 20° C” then suggestions of shorts, t-shirt, and sunglasses would come up. This type of app also has huge commercial scope – with potential sponsorship and advertising opportunities in linking the apparel to an online retailer or an add network. The resulting app would be a weather-responsive ‘lookbook’ of fashion styles and tips – monetizable through affiliate advertising or brand sponsorship.
